About Total Hockey Training Systems

Total Hockey and Total Hockey Training
Systems was created by former NHL player and NCAA coach, Dean Talafous.
Over the last five years, he has continued to develop the most
advanced, hockey-specific, skill development protocols and products
that hockey offers. The Total Hockey system is the only skills
development program that is being selected by current and former NHL
players as their choice to run their own training facilities in
locations around the country.
Dean has dedicated more than 40 years
to hockey as both an NHL player (including the Minnesota North Stars)
and as a Division 1 and Division 3 coach. After leaving coaching, he
reflected back on his career and carefully examined the skill sets
crucial to the game of hockey - quick start, quick feet, hockey
vision, multi-tasking and hand-eye coordination. He recognized that
few training programs focused specifically on these skills in an
environment that was year-round, challenging and enjoyable. Committed
to the future of hockey and excited by helping players of all
abilities, he started Total Hockey in 2002. Since that time, he has
patented leading-edge training products such as the Speed Ramp® which
helps players improve first-step skating.
Off-Ice Skills
In addition to the Speed Ramp,
off-ice training includes several training stations such as:
Multi-Tasking, Slide Boards, Shooting Stations and Quick Hands. These
training stations improve a player’s hockey vision and first step
skating speed. The key movements/actions of the game require the most
attention. Players participate in challenging, progressive drills that
force them to simultaneously move their feet while handling a puck and
building their direct and peripheral vision.
Instant Feedback
Our systems use advanced computer,
sensor and radar technology to measure player performance and offer
immediate feedback. This technology challenges players by creating an
environment where they compete with themselves. It also encourages
players to exceed their comfort zone and truly enhance their skills.
Online Player Development
Unique to hockey training, when a
player enters the facility, they are given a swipe card that records
performance data and automatically uploads this data to a player
development Web site. Players can access their personal data from any
computer with Internet access and benchmark their improvement or their
performance against other players within the same age group.
